- Each meal consists of 2 components:
1. A container of fresh food
2. A paper bag containing utensils, dessert, fruit and condiments.
- There is only one meal per person on your route sheet.
- Deliveries will consist of approximately 20-40 meals (2 to 4 boxes @ 14” x 12” x 16”)
Delivery Process
- Convalescent homes or hotels: check in with the receptionist first
- People may be hard of hearing or disabled – so give them time to answer the door.
- Take a moment to say a kind word, wish people a happy holiday and give them a warm smile.
- Remind people to refrigerate their meal if they aren’t going to eat it right away.
- Please check off delivered meals on your routing sheet and make notes about undelivered meals on the routing sheet and feedback form.
Note: As each route contains between 20-40 meals, you may see other Salvation Army volunteers delivering to the same building, if there is a very large quantity of meals to be delivered to the one location. Sharing the delivery helps make the day go quickly.
After You Complete Your Route
- If you have undelivered meals:
- Feel free to distribute any undelivered meals to the homeless, or a neighbor in need.
- Drop off at a local shelter that we have pre-arranged with. You will find the list on the attached feedback form.
- Please email a photo or scan of your feedback form and routing sheet with notes to christopher.wikle@usw.salvationarmy.org. This will help us update our records for future deliveries.
